As political junkies, we're all well attuned to the how Media creates and promotes memes. As Democrats, these memes are usually working to our detriment. Well, not this time. Here's a real doozy in the making: McCain is so honorable that he must essentially be a captive of his skanky, corrupt, misinformed campaign.

Andrea compliments McCain on what a great guy he is, and of course "McCain Crush" Barnicle agrees. She then strongly asserts that some of McCain's attacks are because he's "inside a bubble", and doesn't know that he's (basically) lying. Wow.

This is one of the most deft eviscerations I have ever seen. The kicker is that because she reinforces his "honorable" brand, the very asset he's sold the media on, she can state unequivocally that his campaign has misquoted Obama - and Mike Barnicle not only agrees, but Roger Simon calls McCain a "grumpy old man". Obama tried to run this ploy by saying "I thought McCain was going to run an honest campaign", but it doesn't fly - you can't criticize the war hero. Andrea not only gets it across, but from this perspective McCain is an ineffectual puppet who might START WARS because he's told to. Unbelievable.

If I were the Obama camp, THIS is the meme I'd push. "McCain is a good man served by venial and corrupt advisers". It's damn good, and I hope it takes off.

Maybe the next time Rick Davis does an interview with Ms. Mitchell, he'll be a little less of a hardass. Welcome to backlash, beotch!

If, as the rumors state, the talking heads are given marching orders on what angle to take, this is a crafty way of getting those memes out there without losing their jobs.

Not that their culpability is any less, of course. Also laughed at the kidnapping tag.

Rick Davis crossed a line when Mitchell interviewed him. It was pretty uncomfortable, and his attitude was pretty much "I get you think our ads are lame, and I care not at all". The press may be McCain's base, but I think his advisers are turning into lightning rods. One can only hope.

They are all making excuses for John McCain here. It is really sad. John McCain said he was "proud" of his Britney/Paris ad.

but at the same time undermining his credibility and ability. He's "honorable" but weak. His campaign is all wrong, etc.

I wouldn't want this kind of praise, to be sure.

Given the lobbyist purges, the Charlie Black/Burma connection, the Phil Gramm Enron Loophole, and all of the other bad press that McCain's staff has been getting that has seemed to slide off McCain himself, Obama would, in fact, be well served to point out how the highest-end "advisors" are still working for the campaign even after being "outed," most likely because McCain essentially owes his candidacy to these high level insiders.

Gramm is pretty obviously still involved with the campaign, given that he authored McCain's economic platform. Karl Rove has his fingerprints all over the election strategy through Rick Davis... Honestly I can't think of a strategy that would piss McCain off more than to suggest that he's not in charge of his own campaign... it might even goad him into doing something stupid but honorable, like firing all of the questionable staff (and not subsequently keeping them as unofficial advisors).

The pebbles have voted and the avalanche has begun.

If I were the Obama camp, THIS is the meme I'd push. "McCain is a good man served by venial and corrupt advisers".

I don't know the man personally, of course, so i don't know for a fact whether the "good man" part is a fact or successful marketing, but it is certain that he is "served by venial and corrupt advisers".

His advisers and support team are the same folks behind the Bush administration. They are the Old Guard GOP attack machine. There isn't anything else they know, and sen. McCain is not by any stretch of the imagination in a strong enough position to do more than come hat-in-hand to them and beg that they help get him elected.

Conversely, Sen. Obama has set the tone for his campaign and everyone else has to deal with it.
